More On Layoffs Without Respect

Since my last post I have heard many more horror stories about the insensitivity of companies toward the employees whose jobs they are eliminating. It is truly sad to listen to how these good people, and often long term employees, were treated with disrespect just at the time we should have been most caring.
Even if we ignore the soft side of this issue, how can we ignore the fact that these now former employees have friends and family who will now talk badly about that employer, that they often end up in a position to influence vendor decisions, or they go to work with a competitor. And what about the employees who remain, but have seen this behavior toward their former coworkers? What impact will this have on retention?
A few days ago I was on the phone with Tony Kubica of Kubica Consulting (Visit his website at Kubicaconsulting.com) discussing this topic. After comparing horror stories we had either witnessed or had heard stories about we agreed that most employers faced with the need to downsize would want to do the right thing. We know that many businesses have little or no experience with this type of exercise. Where do they turn for help when money is so tight? We also knew we wanted to use our experience, our skills and our resources to help those leaders.
So, SJE Partners, LLC and Kubica Consulting have agreed to join forces and offer companies much needed support in their downsizing planning and implementation. We will assist with communication, transition arrangements and management support. We realize that just highlighting the failures of companies to do this the right way was not enough. We needed to do something positive.
